Mid Challenge Inspiration–Paper Piecing

There is still one more week to get in on the challenge over at the Clear It Out Challenge Blog.  If you want to read all the details on the current challenge please click here.  In the meantime, here’s a little inspiration to get you started.

The cute cupcake on my card is designed by Digi Darla and you can find it here.  If you hurry over there you will find it on sale for half price … only $1.00!!

I used my copics to color the cupcake:

  • Cupcake Wrapper – E13/37
  • Cupcake Icing – V12/15/17
  • Candy Cane – BG000/01/02
  • Shadow - W0

I used the paper piecing technique on the P-A-R-T-Y banner.   I used 2 different designer papers for this.  They are from Michaels Recollections paper pads ‘Sweet Flora’ and ‘Bold Basics’.

The red & white striped paper on the card is also from the ‘Sweet Flora’ paper pad.  The mat behind it is from American Crafts but I’m not sure which paper pad because it was a giveaway prize and it wasn’t part of a pad.

Here is a peek at the inside.  The die cut (along with the one on the front) is a ‘Me and My Big Ideas’ birthday die cut.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you decide to enter your paper-pieced creation in the CIO challenge this week.

Catching Up

I made this card for my niece’s birthday back in May and completely forgot to share it with you so I’m doing that today.  I really love Magnolia Tilda stamps.  I have quite a few and I really need to start using them more often because they are just so gosh darn cute!  You can find this one here and right now it’s on sale for just $4.99.

Of course, I used my copics to color this little cutie:

  • Dress, socks & headband – R81/83/85
  • Flowers – Y13/15/17, YG61/63/67
  • Hair – E35/37/39
  • Skin – E000/E00/E11
  • Rosey Cheeks – R20/22
  • Shoes – E37 (with colorless blender to soften)

I purchased the butterflies at my local dollar store.  They are painted wooden pieces.  Pretty nice for a $1, huh.

As I’m typing this post, I’m also watching my PVR’d show of Nik Wallenda walking across the Grand Canyon and I can’t help but wonder .. WHY? lol.  Even though I know he makes it across, I’m still freaked out!

I hope you will stop by tomorrow for some CIO mid-challenge inspiration!  Enjoy your night.

I am going to make a confession right here, right now.  I have never, ever used the paper piecing technique.  I know, crazy right!  I guess there has to be a first time sometime and this challenge gave me that opportunity.  The dress, apron and shoes were all pieced using paper from the Michael’s Recollection “Basic Bold” paper pack.  I colored her skin, hair and cheeks using copics.  I strung a charm by Fashion Accessories on some leather string and attached it to her hands by poking a hole in each hand and threading the string through the hole and knotting it on the backside.

The sentiment is by Stampin’ Up Shelli’s Signature Collection – Tea Shoppe.

Hey there!

First, allow me to apologize for not putting up a Friday Freebie this weekend.  I was sick for part of the week and then I was busy catching up on what didn’t get done when I was sick so time just slipped away.  I promise to make it up to you though.

I also spent Friday night at the Taylor Swift concert with my two daughters.  Loved, loved, loved the show!  The train ride home … not so much.  Long story short, the train has the seating capacity of 160.  There were – no exaggeration – at least 250 people on it.  We were crushed together so tightly we couldn’t move.  We were located just inside the doors and I was fine … until the doors closed about 5 minutes later.  Then my claustrophobia got the better of me,  I had a full blown panic attack and pretty much fainted. I didn't fall down though because there was no room ... I just remember saying that I needed to sit down. Somehow, people all around me managed to squeeze me through to a seat that someone else gave up for me.  I was dripping with sweat and I think I must have looked pretty bad because I remember one guy asking my daughter if I had any medical issues.  The poor girls were terrified but after sitting for a while I started feeling a little bit better.  It was a long ride back but we finally made it to our destination.

Something else I spent my weekend doing was creating some Father’s Day cards – one for my father-in-law and one for my husband.  Take a look …

Card #1:

In this example, I used the same image 4 times at different sizes then layered them on top of each other using pop dots.

Card #2:

SAM_0843_apieceofheartblog

In this example, I used the same image 4 times but cropped each image so that it appeared as one scene when I layered them.  If you look closely you can see that the tree on the top left is one complete tree but on 4 separate layers.  It’s hard to explain but I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.

SAM_0822_apieceofheartblog

I usually give my Dad a gift card for Father’s Day.  This year I wanted to come up with a new way to present it to him. I saw a card similar to this one on Pinterest and thought it was great so I decided to try making one for myself.  It’s simple, yet creative.  The image used on this card is from Bugaboo Stamps.   The buttons are metal to keep in line with the required stash item.
